Hee Ra Yoo, Artistic Director

Picture
International choreographer Hee Ra Yoo founded the New York modern dance company “Yoo and Dancers” in 2009 after completing the MFA program at NYU Tisch. Before moving to New York City in 2007, Ms. Yoo danced with the Korean National Ballet, the California Ballet, the San Diego City Ballet, the Canberra Dance Theatre in Australia, and was a guest with the Kirov Ballet company Russia. Ms.Yoo has taught dance at universities in the U.S. and Korea and as a guest teacher in Japan, Canada, Australia, Korea. She has coached the Australian and Korean Olympic Gymnastics Teams. In New York City, Ms. Yoo has taught at the Joffrey Ballet School, Dance New Amsterdam, and Peridance. This season, Yoo & Dancers will perform two full-length concert works commissioned by the Korean Culture Center and by Dixon Place.

Hee Ra's work is dramatic, theatrical, and challenging. Her most recent piece, “One Hundred Sixty Miles,” reveals all of these qualities.
